Freedom, Memory and Community: Saturday, June 13 at Biografilm

13 June 2026

Biografilm continues its journey through other people’s lives to tell us something about our own. Today’s program is shaped by the theme of time: time that passes, transforming people, communities and systems of power, but also time that seems to stand still, suspended between memory and the present. From military drills endlessly repeated aboard a NATO vessel to collective utopias that have endured the passing of decades, and through the images that have documented and shaped contemporary Italy, today’s screenings invite audiences to reflect on the changes that run through our lives and societies.

Among today’s must-see events is Sguardi in camera, the documentary series narrated by Milena Vukotic, which retraces Italian history through amateur footage and archival materials, offering an intimate and surprising perspective on the country’s past. On the occasion of the world premiere of Episodes 4 and 5, Biografilm will present Milena Vukotic with the Celebration of Lives Award, a recognition dedicated to personalities who have left a profound mark on the cultural and artistic imagination. The event takes place at 5:30 PM at the Biografilm Hera Theatre | Pop Up Cinema Arlecchino.

Among the evening’s Special Events, Dans l’ombre de Berlusconi (The Revolution Will Be Televised – The Men Who Made Berlusconi) stands out as a journey into 1980s Italy and the birth of private television, told through the testimonies of those who helped build the media system that would go on to transform the country. An opportunity to reflect on the relationship between media, politics and democracy in a historical moment whose influence can still be felt today.

And to celebrate Pride, which today fills the streets of Bologna, Biografilm presents KitKatClub – Kinks of Berlin at 11:00 PM at the Pop Up Cinema Arlecchino. Set in Berlin’s legendary club, the documentary explores desires, relationships, and unconventional forms of self-expression, portraying a community built around consent, the freedom to be oneself, and the breaking down of taboos. An opportunity to continue reflecting on identity, self-determination, and inclusion through cinema, in an experience that is intense, provocative, and deeply contemporary.

Among the other screenings of the day, Standby (Cinema Lumière, 4:30 PM) takes audiences aboard the NATO ship Louise-Marie, where young recruits undergo military training through war simulations that increasingly blur the line between exercise and reality. For lovers of photography and music, Every Picture Tells a Story (Cinema Lumière, 7:00 PM) offers an intimate and unexpected portrait of renowned photographer David Bailey, told through conversations with some of the most iconic figures in contemporary culture.

The evening continues with Christiania (Cinema Lumière, 9:30 PM), dedicated to the famous self-governing community founded in the heart of Copenhagen more than fifty years ago, a social experiment that continues to question the meaning of freedom and coexistence. Also at 9:30 PM, at the Chiostro del Complesso di Santa Cristina “della Fondazza”, Liberated Space revisits the story of a feminist squat founded in Bremen in 1989, weaving together archival materials and contemporary testimonies to reflect on the legacy of collective struggles and their impact on younger generations.

A day that moves between past and present, memory and desire, once again demonstrating documentary cinema’s unique ability to capture and interpret the transformations of our time.
