Habibi Hussein
The Janin Cinema had been abandoned for twenty years when a German NGO set out to restore it. Hussein Darby, the old theatre’s last projectionist, is determined to reclaim his place. Armed with little more than an old toolbox, he sets out to prove himself against modern technology and foreign engineers. But in a changing world, his craft and his love for cinema may no longer be enough. At once a reflection on the complexities of international aid in Palestine and a tribute to a vanishing film culture, the story unfolds with quiet poignancy.
