Make It Real Award 2024

Make It Real Award is the recognition for professionals who have distinguished themselves in the field of documentary film production and distribution.

This year the Make It Real Award will be presented to Signe Byrge Sørensen for her great commitment to discovering, following and supporting filmmakers of the calibre of Joshua Oppenheimer (The Act of Killing,The Look of silence - Grand Jury Prize at Venice 71) and Jonas Poher Rasmussen, author of the Oscar®-nominated animated documentary Flee.

Signe Byrge Sørensenis also the producer of Joshua Oppenheimer's highly-anticipated new film The End, starring Tilda Swinton, Michael Shannon and George MacKey, which has yet to be released.The Danish producer will, for the occasion, hold a masterclass on her journey in the world of documentary filmmaking for the entire accredited audienceə of Bio to B - Industry Days 2024.

Signe Byrge Sørensen's biography
Signe Byrge Sørensen is a four-time Oscar® nominee for producing The Act of Killing (nominated for Best Documentary in 2014), The Look of Silence (nominated for Best Documentary in 2016) and Flee (nominated for Best Documentary and Best Animated Feature in 2022). She was also nominated for the Producer's Guild Award for The Look of Silence. Signe Byrge Sørensen has been a producer since 1998. She started at SPOR Media in 1998, moved to Final Cut Productions ApS in 2004 and co-founded Final Cut for Real ApS in 2009. She holds a Master's degree in International Development Studies and Communication Studies from Roskilde University, Denmark, in 1998. She is a EURODOC (2003), EAVE (2010), ACE (2018) and Inside Pictures (2022) graduate. In 2014, she received the Roos Award, honouring outstanding contribution to Danish documentary cinema, and the IB Award, awarded by the Danish Filmmakers Association. He has also received the Timbuktu Award, which recognises critical and investigative journalistic work.

 

Make It Real Award: past editions

In 2023 the Make It Real Award went to Philippa Kowarsky, founder of the international distribution company Cinephil.

In 2019, the Award was presented to the too prematurely deceased Diane Weyermann, then President of the Documentary Film and Television division for the company Participant - Participant Media.

Finally, in 2018 the first Make It Real Award was presented to the British producer Simon Chinn (Project Nim, Man on Wire, Sugarman, The Princess), multi-award-winner and two-time Oscar® winner.
