Biografilm Festival | International Celebration of Lives is the film festival dedicated to life stories, quality fiction and documentary cinema.
Since 2005, during ten days in June, Biografilm Festival brings to a passionate audience the best of Italian and international documentaries and quality fiction, with particular attention to the enhancement of female and emerging talents.
Over the past eighteen years, the Festival has pushed boundaries to offer its audience a wide range of imputs for understanding life in all its forms and the complexity of contemporaneity. Every year the festival showcases known and lesser known life stories that deserve to be told. In addition to several screenings in cinemas and in charming "open air" locations, Biografilm features multidisciplinary events, meetings, workshops and training for both audiences and film professionals.
Biografilm Festival aims at spreading film culture as a tool for inclusivity and dialogue between different realities and generations. This goal has been pursued over the years by building networks and partnerships with various organizations operating in Bologna and all over the country.
Alongside the Festival's offer to the public, for the past nine years Biografilm has also been hosting an appointment dedicated to professionals: Bio to B Industry Days, the yearly event focused on business-to-business networking among audiovisual professionals, with the aim of promoting and supporting Italian and European documentary productions, helping them to find co-producers, sellers, international distributors, partners and European festivals.
Biografilm Campus is the educational division of Biografilm: the Festival provides, in different contexts, a range of film-related educational activities. Paying special attention to the core values of inclusivity, participation and debate, these projects enhance and support the talent and creativity of new generations, so that they can feel active protagonists of the present and future of society.
The programmes are run on a multi-year basis and, while they vary in terms of users and settings, they have the following activities in common: educational programmes on documentary storytelling, active involvement in Biografilm Festival as a learning experience, practical workshops on video-making, storytelling and writing, narrative and self-narrative activities to enhance the diversity of talents.
In response to the emergency caused by the Covid19 pandemic, from 2020 the Festival has also been held online on the MyMovies platform. This choice has made it possible for the Festival to stay connected with producers and filmmakers and to expand its geographical boundaries, reaching audiences all over Italy.
