The Festival

Biografilm is the film festival dedicated to life stories and quality fiction and documentary cinema.

Since 2005, for ten days in June, Biografilm Festival has been offering an enthusiastic audience the best of documentary works and quality fiction of Italian and international production, with a special focus on the enhancement of female and emerging talents.

Over time, the Festival has transcended its boundaries to offer the public a wide range of stimuli for understanding life in all its forms and contemporary life in all its complexity. Well-known stories and lesser-known life stories that deserve to be told are presented each year. In addition to the numerous screenings in cinemas and in some suggestive "open air" locations offered by the city, Biografilm proposes multidisciplinary events, meetings, training and refresher courses for the public and for professionals in the sector. The dissemination of film culture as a tool for inclusion and dialogue between different realities and generations is Biografilm's objective, pursued over the years by building networks and collaborations with realities and associations active in the territory of Bologna and nationwide.

One of the values promoted by Biografilm is environmental protection, an area in which good practices have been put in place to achieve concrete objectives, limiting waste and trying to reduce environmental impact. The Festival is also committed to reducing the gender gap and promoting gender equality both within the working group and in the choice of works to be represented. To this end, it has signed the Ethical Behaviour Charter for the Audiovisual Sector, a prevention tool created by the non-profit association WIFTM Italia for the protection of the dignity of workers in the audiovisual sector.

In addition to the proposal for the public, the Festival also includes an appointment dedicated to professionals: Bio to B - Industry Days, Biografilm's annual event for business-to-business networking between audiovisual professionals, with the aim of promoting and supporting Italian and European productions of documentaries, helping them to find co-productions, sellers, international distributions, partners and European festivals. Within Bio to B, From Book to Film is the appointment focused on the proposal and research of stories for audiovisual works, with publishers, literary agents, film productions, authors, authors, scriptwriters as protagonists.

Biografilm Campus is the educational division of Biografilm: the Festival proposes, in different contexts, a range of educational paths related to cinema which, moving from the fundamental concepts of inclusion, participation and confrontation, are able to enhance and support the talent and creativity of the young generations, making them feel protagonists of the present and future of society.

The didactic projects have a multi-annual value and, while adapting to different users and situations, they have the following activities in common: paths of vision and education in documentary narration, active participation in Biografilm Festival as an educational experience, practical workshops of video-making, storytelling and writing, exercises of narration and self-narration to enhance the diversity of talents.

Moreover, since 2020, the Festival can also be enjoyed online on the MyMovies platform; a choice born with the emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic that has allowed the Festival to expand its geographical boundaries and reach audiences all over Italy.
