Broken Voices
In the early 1990s, in the newly born Czech Republic, thirteen-year-old Karolína earns a spot in a world-renowned girls’ choir, joining her older sister and other talented young singers. Her voice soon catches the attention of the admired and enigmatic conductor Machá. At first, being chosen feels like a triumph, but Karolína gradually discovers the disturbing price of that privilege, lying far beyond ambition and the illusion of golden success. Inspired by the ‘Bambini di Praga’ choir case and shot on 16mm, the film explores the fragile boundary where innocence clashes with abusive power.
