Christiania
In 1971, hundreds of young people occupied the abandoned military barracks on Bådsmandsstræde, in the heart of Copenhagen. And so, Christiania was born: a radical experiment in freedom and community, a true alternative to the traditional society inhabited by pioneers, hippies, doomsday cults and motorcycle gangs entering the hash market. This insider’s account of a radical example of democracy, but also of violence, drugs, and growing pressure from the outside world. A humorous, colorful, and compelling documentary that explores how a community founded on freedom, consensus, and resistance continues to fight for its right to exist.
