SMK Factory, founded in Bologna in 2009, produces social documentaries and investigative films, experimenting with impact and crowdfunding distribution models. Recent works include Kissing Gorbaciov (2023), premiered at Festival dei Popoli and finalist at the Nastri d’Argento 2024; Sarura (2022), co-produced with Al Jazeera Arabic; I’m Still Here (2021); The Milky Way (2020); and The Harvest (2019). Marta Melina works in documentary production since 2015 with SMK Factory, focusing on social and investigative cinema. She worked on The Harvest (2017) and The Milky Way (2019), later leading the impact campaign for Sarura (2021), acquired by Al Jazeera Arabic. Since 2021, she has overseen the production of Kissing Gorbaciov (2023), presented at Bio to B and premiered at Festival dei Popoli, later nominated for the Nastri d’Argento 2024.
