Biografilm’ Podcast – Exploring the Present Through Films Presented at the Festival
P.O.V. is a podcast created by students of the 2026 Biografilm Academy, the festival’s advanced training programme developed in collaboration with ForModena. A window onto the complexity of reality
For its 2026 edition, Biografilm invited young Brescia-based illustrator Maria Giulia Pedrotti, known as Gitti, to create the Festival’s official image, renewing its collaboration with the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna for the second year running.
The image is a visual interpretation of the concept developed by the Biografilm team, the result of a shared reflection on the meaning and potential of documentary cinema. It offers a window onto the complexity of reality: a deliberate gesture that reflects the Festival’s identity as a space where documentary becomes a tool for exploring reality from a critical, in-depth and plural perspective.
The illustration invites us to pause, look closely and ask questions, much like the three figures seen from behind, facing a window that opens onto another world. Beyond the window stands Biografilm’s “building”, alive with fragments of everyday life: glimpses of ordinary moments and small stories unfold from its windows and balconies, offering fleeting views into other lives.
Created by layering different drawing techniques, the artwork brings together multiple perspectives and narratives, reflecting the spirit of the Festival.
Building on Mariagiulia’s artwork, young videomaker Leonardo Saccani created an animation for Biografilm that accompanied the screenings in our cinemas throughout the Festival. Discover it here!

Ababo x Biografilm Creative Hub
For the 21st edition of Biografilm, first-year students from the Graphic Design course at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna present a series of 25 original posters, created as part of a project developed through the Biografilm Creative Hub initiative. Led by Professor Danilo Danisi, the young designers were invited to explore the Festival’s visual identity and develop graphic interpretations that reflect the complexity and energy of contemporary biographical storytelling.
The project was based on two different briefs. The first focused on The End, the highly anticipated latest film by director Joshua Oppenheimer, presented in its Italian premiere at the Festival. Taking inspiration from the film’s themes and visual language, the students developed their own interpretations of ideas such as endings, memory and storytelling.
The second brief drew inspiration from the official Biografilm 2025 opening sequence, created by students from the Experimental Film and Animation course led by Professor Maurizio Finotto. The sequence combines live action and animation through the use of rotoscoping.
The resulting posters move freely between these two sources of inspiration, creating a diverse and layered visual landscape in which each work offers a different perspective on cinema and graphic design. Presented during the Festival at the cloister of the Complesso di Santa Cristina “della Fondazza”, the exhibition is the result of an educational process that brings together graphic design, critical thinking and visual experimentation. It also highlights the role of artistic education at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna and its dialogue with the ideas, content and opportunities offered by Biografilm.
The first edition
For its first edition, the project brought together students from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, the Istituto Aldini Valeriani and the Liceo Artistico Francesco Arcangeli.
Students from the Academy’s Graphic Design course, led by Professor Danilo Danisi, developed the visual identity for the Festival’s official image, combining graphic design, critical thinking and visual experimentation. The project was an opportunity to explore the role of artistic education and its potential to engage with Biografilm’s content and creative opportunities.
Meanwhile, students from the Experimental Film and Animation course created the festival opener for Biografilm 2025. The collaborative project was directed by Maurizio Finotto, with live-action footage by Federico Cesaroni, animation supervised by Simone Tacconelli, and an original soundtrack by Enzo Casucci. Dana Caparnagiu appears as the protagonist.
