Federica Di Giacomo graduated in Anthropology in Florence and worked in Tanztheater both in Italy and abroad. In Barcelona, she completed a Master’s in Creative Documentary.

As a writer, director, and camera operator, she won the Orizzonti Award for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival in 2016 with Liberami, as well as the Solinas Prize for Documentary for Cinema, Best Documentary at the Madrid Film Festival, and the Doc/It Award. The film was among the five finalists for the Nastri d’Argento, David di Donatello, and European Film Awards.

Her earlier works include Il lato grottesco della vita (2006), awarded at the Torino Film Festival, and Housing (2009), screened at festivals such as Locarno and Hot Docs. In 2021 she presented Il Palazzo at Giornate degli Autori (Special Events). In 2024 she premiered Coppia aperta, quasi spalancata—based on Franca Rame’s play—as the Giornate degli Autori opening event, and received the SIAE Award for creative talent.
