Maria Giménez Cavallo was born in New York in 1992. After graduating from Columbia University in Film Studies, she moved to Paris to accompany Abdellatif Kechiche for four years as artistic collaborator, first assistant, and editor for the Mektoub, My Love trilogy. She then moved to Rome to collaborate with Pietro Marcello, notably on Futura, Duse, and especially Scarlet for which she was artistic director. She has since been directing her own work—including several short films and a feature which engage deeply with the natural world and often depict rural traditions. Her debut feature film Anime galleggianti had its premiere at the Alice nella città Festival in Rome in 2024.
