Little Sinner
Daro, a young woman from Damascus, falls in love with Toke, a Danish exchange student, but is forced into a violent arranged marriage. With Toke’s help, she manages to flee to Denmark in search of a new life, but the past refuses to disappear. The outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011 reawakens long-repressed trauma. She turns her attention to the refugee crisis in Lebanon and Greece, gradually distancing herself from her husband and her new home, and sinking deeper into the pain she had tried to escape. Through twenty years of personal archives, we witness Daro’s long and painful process of reckoning with the past: healing can only come through confrontation.
