Bologna, 17 June 2025 – The 21st edition of Biografilm, the festival dedicated to life stories, has successfully wrapped up, once again bringing the heart of Bologna to life with screenings, meetings, international guests, and moments of exchange between audiences and the audiovisual industry.

A festival on the rise

With over 14,000 total attendees and 9 sold-out screenings, Biografilm 2025 presented 73 films from 34 countries, including 30 Italian productions or co-productions and a remarkable 68 premieres.

Screenings were held at iconic venues across the city, including Cinema Lumière, BIOGRAFILM HERA THEATRE Pop Up Cinema Arlecchino, the Cloister of Santa Cristina, and, for the first time, the newly restored Cinema Modernissimo, with a total of 9,244 tickets issued.

Strong Online Participation

The online edition of the Festival on MYmovies ONE, still available for three more days, has so far gathered around 4,000 viewers for 2,800 hours of streaming, with Mr. Nobody Against Putin being the most watched and appreciated title (rated 3.9 out of 5 stars).

Bio to B – Industry Days: A Key Event for the Sector

Bio to B – Industry Days also saw record numbers, with over 500 accredited participants, including 130 European producers, more than 100 directors, screenwriters, and authors, and over 80 decision makers, alongside sales agents, broadcasters, and representatives from major European markets and festivals.

This year, the event was held in two prestigious new venues: Cinema Modernissimo (Doc section) and Biblioteca Salaborsa (Drama section).

30 documentary projects and 9 original story ideas were officially presented — the result of year-round editorial development. This confirms Bio to B's role as a key platform for the documentary and scripted content industry in Europe.

Biograbook and Side Events

The new literary lounge Biograbook also received a warm reception, with over 250 participants across 7 days of presentations and conversations.

Biografilm contributed to Modena’s summer programming as well, with five international documentaries screened in Piazza Sant’Agostino between July and August.

Chiara Liberti and Massimo Benvegnù, the Festival's Artistic Directors, shared: "We are extremely pleased with this year’s results. The growing engagement from the public, press, and industry professionals confirms Biografilm’s central role in the European cultural landscape. We are already at work on the 2026 edition, ready to take on new challenges."
