Objective:To explore and put into practice the relationship between creative/organizational production and cinematography (DoP), focusing on the interaction between key roles in the creation of a documentary scene.
Course Structure
Morning – Theoretical Part (4 hours)
- Collective scene analysis:Director, producer, and DoP jointly analyze a documentary scene
- Technical and production discussion:Artistic choices and their organizational impactCollaboration between creativity and logistics
- Equipment list creation:Shared decision-making on filming toolsIntroduction to communication with rental houses (quotes, availability, budget adaptation)
- Overview of communication workflow between direction, production, and DoP
Afternoon – Practical Part (4 hours)
- Practical staging:Hands-on realization of the scene analyzed in the morningRole distribution among participants (director, producer, DoP)
- Location scouting exercise:Creative and production-oriented approach to location scouting
- Introduction to the use of artificial intelligence for:Visual location research: using AI platforms to generate realistic images based on scripts or visual referencesMood boards and pre-visualization: rapid creation of sketches and visual concepts for the sceneLighting and atmosphere simulation: preliminary evaluation of visual outcomes based on time of day, weather conditions, or lighting typeLogistics planning: support in estimating required equipment, setup times, transportation, and accessibility
Expected Outcome
Participants will gain a clear and integrated understanding of the dialogue between creativity and technical production, enhanced by practical tools based on the use of AI to optimize and enrich the decision-making and production process.
Course Tutors
Alvise Renzini – Opificio CiclopeMember of Opificio Ciclope since 1999. He has worked on numerous animation and mixed-media projects screened at major international festivals. He has contributed in various roles to productions for several television networks including Rai Uno, Sky, Canal Plus, and Discovery. In the commercial field, he has produced music videos and advertisements with Opificio Ciclope.
