The project

Animated Rights: Women’s Leadership in the History of Italy is a project developed by the Alda Costa Comprehensive Institute of Ferrara, in collaboration with CNA Formazione Emilia-Romagna, Biografilm, and other partner organizations. The initiative was carried out and supported within the framework of the National Plan for Cinema and Images in Schools “Cinema and Audiovisual Language as a Subject and Tool for Education and Training” Call for Proposals (2023 edition), promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) and the Ministry of Education and Merit (MIM).

The project aims to raise public awareness of women’s right to self-determination and gender equality through the use of cinematic and audiovisual techniques. Participants reinterpreted, through animation, the biographies of significant female figures connected to the history of Ferrara: Alda Costa, an anti-fascist teacher and partisan, and Rosa Angelini, a patriot and volunteer in Garibaldi’s campaigns.

Drawing inspiration from the themes of memory as a space of identity and collective history, the project develops a creative and reflective journey through cinema and audiovisual media, with the following objectives:

  • To bring younger generations closer to the art and pedagogy of images, promoting knowledge of visual production and communication techniques;
  • To develop and strengthen skills in the fields of cinema and audiovisual technologies, from production to the dissemination of images and sound;
  • To cultivate a new generation of informed audiences, capable of critically engaging with the present and navigating the ongoing digital revolution;
  • To provide both practical and theoretical knowledge of the different stages involved in creating a film project, such as an animated short film.

The project concluded during the 21st edition of Biografilm Festival, on Saturday, 14 June 2025, at 6:30 PM, at Cinema Lumière – Sala Mastroianni, with the screening of the short films created by four classes from the lower secondary school of the Alda Costa Comprehensive Institute of Ferrara. The event was followed by the world premiere of School of Life by Giuseppe Marco Albano, presented in the presence of the director.
