The third evening of the Biografilm Festival offers, among others, a special event. At 9 p.m., the screening of Vanessa Hope's Invisible Nation will take place at Cinema Lumière - Sala Scorsese. Presented in more than twenty festivals around the world, the documentary makes its Italian premiere at this year's Biografilm. The director offers an unprecedented, intimate and urgent look at the political and human figure of Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan's president in office from 2016 to 2024 and the first woman to hold this position. The documentary investigates the fears and horizons of a people and a key place in contemporary international politics, a state in precarious balance, caught between conflicting pushes. The event will be accessible to Biografilm TEEN season ticket holders, reserved for those 14 and older and attending secondary schools.
The screening will feature director Vanessa Hope and producer Ted Hope who will receive the Celebration of Lives Award 2024 for their careers in independent production.
Ted Hope is one of the most heard voices within the global film industry. After a long career as a producer, where he worked alongside directors such as Ang Lee, Todd Solondz, and Michel Gondry, Hope climbed the industry's upper echelons, rising to head the film division of Amazon Studios, before returning to the independent spirit by founding the production company Double Hope Films together with his wife, Vanessa Hope. Vanessa has a long career as a producer in the documentary film industry, which began under the aegis of Chantal Akerman and continued with an eye toward the Asian continent. She has directed five feature films, including Invisible Nation.
