Biografilm reintroduces Biografilm Italia section to celebrate Italian storytelling with more than 20 selected documentaries

Biografilm festival 2025 - that takes place in Bologna June 6-16, under the artistic direction of Chiara Liberti and Massimo Benvegnù - celebrates Italian storytelling this year with more than 20 domestically produced documentaries in the various sections. Said Massimo Benvegnù, co-artistic director of Biografilm: “In the last year, due to the well-known issues related to public funds and questionable government choices, Italian cinema has gone through a dramatic period as far as production is concerned. In spite of this, a great many authors managed to deliver us their works, from which we were able to choose more than twenty excellent titles for this year's edition. Let this be an omen for a prompt return to full activity at the national level, as well as the maintenance of the very high production standards now achieved at the local level.”

The proposals of Italian-produced films that arrived were so numerous and of such quality that the Biografilm Italia section was reintroduced, to give visibility to the great variety of proposals that were unlikely to have had adequate space in the International Competition, as originally planned. For 2025, a dedicated section proved more necessary than ever to highlight works worthy of attention, promotion and support.
