“Peace is not the absence of war, but the presence of justice”. This is the motto of Manizha Bakhtari, Afghan ambassador in Vienna, who, following the Taliban takeover, found herself representing a country without an internationally recognized government. Despite financial and logistical isolation, Bakhtari defies the regime and continues to fight for the rights of Afghan women and girls. Through her “Daughters” program, she promotes clandestine education for young women in her country and leads the political resistance against the Taliban, becoming one of the most important international spokespersons for women in Afghanistan.
