From Kobe to Copenhagen and from the proper and polished to the wild and free. Opposites come together in the Japanese classical pianist and performance artist Eriko Makimura, who is facing and liberating herself from her past. Japanese Eriko Makimura is very talented on the piano. Her art and performances unite the grotesque, the polished and the delicate. But her perfectionism did not come for free, and Eriko has had to pay a high price. After growing up in a strict and disciplined childhood filled with humiliation and often wishing to be elsewhere, Eriko is finally on the path to find and accept herself – and to reunite herself with her passion for the piano. Supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region, the film traces the history of "Il Canzoniere delle Lame", a Bologna band that play political music with a strong social conscience. It takes us on a journey from the hippie and post '68 era to the end of the 70s, from Paris to Bologna where, on their way towards an unknown destination, Janna Carioli and the other former members of the Canzoniere delle Lame open up a dialogue with young musicians Jack (Le Altre di B) and Albi (Lo Stato Sociale). The story begins in France and transports us to Bologna, moving through Piazza Nettuno with the workers of the CGIL, to the Palasport, to a community theatre, along country roads and to the “Festa dell’Unità” social-democratic festivals of Emilia-Romagna... A space occupies the service station of Cantagallo in Sasso Marconi (Bologna) where, in 1971, the honorable Almirante was challenged by the workers. On this occasion Il Canzoniere wrote a song that became famous. A long journey for a light-hearted and partly nostalgic tour. Half Dream is a personal documentary film about three Chinese former art students and their dream of creating art. Ten years after their graduation from the Peking Art Academy the film maker goes to find three of her former class mates in order to confront them with their common past, their creative urges to make art, and their current lives. The film portrays the one-child policy generation of the 1980s attempt to make their way through life amidst a society shaken from economic and social upheaval. A film about dealing with social realities and the profound need for individual expression and creativity in a life from which art is slowly disappearing. Beverly Glenn-Copeland wrote & self-released Keyboard Fantasies in 1986. Recorded in an Atari-powered home studio, the seven tracks were a folk-electronica hybrid, a sound realised far before its time. Three decades on the musician – now Glenn Copeland – began to hear from people worldwide, thanking him for the music they’d recently discovered. Courtesy of a rare-record collector, a reissue, and plays by Four Tet, Caribou & more, the music had finally found its audience. The film follows the protagonist committing his life & music to screen for the first time. Half aural-visual history, half DIY tour-video, the film allows our newly appointed queer elder to connect with youth across the globe.
