Every year at Biografilm, we celebrate a personality who has left a profound mark on documentary cinema and the art of portraying reality.
For the 2026 edition, we have chosen to present the Celebration of Lives Award to director Kaouther Ben Hania, whose powerful and radical vision has distinguished her work. She was previously a guest at the Festival in 2024 with her film Quattro figlie.
Today, the director is in the running for the Academy Awards with La voce di Hind Rajab, after winning the Leone d’Argento - Gran Premio della Giuria at the Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica di Venezia, further confirming her as one of the most incisive and essential voices in contemporary cinema.
“Kaouther Ben Hania’s cinema asserts a mission of resistance and engagement. From the intimate storytelling of Quattro figli to the civic commitment of La voce di Hind Rajab, her work demonstrates extraordinary expressive power. We celebrate a filmmaker who questions the present with a courage that masterfully merges aesthetics and ethics,” say artistic directors Chiara Liberti and Massimo Benvegnù.
With this award, Biografilm renews its commitment to championing filmmakers who are able to cross the boundaries between cinema and reality, transforming the narration of the present into a space of awareness, responsibility, and vision.
