SATURDAY, JUNE 8 Biografilm continues with a diverse offering of films that will capture the emotions of the audience


It begins at 3:30 pm with Selling a Colonial War at Cinema Lumière - Sala Mastroianni, in the presence of director In-Soo Radstake, which reveals the Netherlands' reluctance to confront its colonialist past.

At 4:30 pm, the documentary As the Tide Comes In by Juan Palacios and Sofie Husum Johannesen, at Cinema Lumière - Sala Scorsese, about the vicissitudes of a community grappling with climate change on the small Danish island of Mando. In partnership with 24Bottles, an artistic performance dedicated to World Oceans Day will take place after the screening: artist Giulia Sollai will customize the water bottles of partner 24Bottles to celebrate this anniversary together with Biografilm.

At 6:00 pm at BIOGRAFILM HERA THEATRE | Pop Up Cinema ArlecchinoWoman of… brings us into the life of Aniela Wesoły, who struggles to assert her identity as a trans woman in Poland, a country sharply divided between change and traditional social structures. The screening, in collaboration with Gruppo Trans and Cassero, will feature directors Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert.

At 6:45 pm it continues at Cinema Lumière - Sala Mastroianni with the World Premiere of Romina by Valerio Lo Muzio and Michael Petrolini. A compelling and realistic look at Romina's life in Bologna between work, sports and evenings with friends, until her mother's arrest, which brings out a social fragility common in many city settings. The filmmakers and protagonist Cabezas Navarrete will be present at the screening. This will be followed by a panel discussion curated by Next Generation Italy.

And again, at 7:00 pm at Cinema Lumière - Sala ScorseseThe Monk by Mira Jargil and Christian Sønderby Jepsen, present at the screening, offers a reflection on identity and human nature through the incredible story of a well-known Danish HIV researcher who became a monk in the mountains of Sri Lanka.

The night continues at 9:15 pm at Cinema Lumière - Sala Mastroianni with Stray Bodies - Corpi erranti by Elina Psykou, a compelling and provocative journey that raises important questions with respect to self-determination of one's body. Exhausted by exhausting and surreal journeys, the protagonists move as wandering bodies across Europe to circumvent laws that limit their rights, in search of answers to the most complex mysteries of existence about life, death, abortion, IVF and euthanasia. An important documentary on this European Election Day.

Also at 9:15 pm, at BIOGRAFILM HERA THEATRE | Pop Up Cinema Arlecchino, the Premiere of Le Règne animal (The Animal Kingdom) by Thomas Cailley. Already known for his unique style and sensitivity in investigating human dynamics, the director and screenwriter will be present in the theater along with soundtrack composer Andrea Laszlo De Simone.

At 9:30 pm at Cinema Lumière - Sala Scorsese, the documentary Isabelle Stengers: fabriquer de l'espoir au bord du gouffre, a surprising encounter with the Belgian philosopher who unravels the thread of her thought in a mysterious house inside a magical forest. The director Fabrizio Terranova will be present at the screening.

At Chiostro del Complesso di Santa Cristina "della Fondazza", also at 9:30 pm, the international Premiere of JDL - Behind the Wall by Deborah Faraone Mennella, a documentary about Judith de Leeuw, a Dutch street artist recognized for her works addressing social issues. The director and the protagonist will be present in the hall. JDL will return to Bologna soon to create a mural on a wall in the city, thanks to the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Italy and Biografilm. 

Saturday 8th is also the day when the girls from the Oikos juvenile community, beneficiaries of the “Tutta un altro storia” social inclusion educational project, meet with directors and protagonists of the films they have seen and analyze as a jury, awarding a prize to the most appreciated film. The films in question are Selling a Colonial WarRomina and JDL - Behind the Wall.
