THE CLEANERS, the movie on Facebook that shocked Sundance, a preview at Biografilm 2018

In the year in which Facebook is hit by it's strongest crisis yet, while its founder Mark Zuckerberg is called to testify before the Unites States senate on exactly how his company handles the personal data of its users and the information which they are exposed to daily, Biografilm will host the Italian premiere of the film that shocked Sundance by revealing the procedures employed by companies such as Facebook and Google to regularly remove digital content from their sites.

Biografilm Festival - International Celebration of Lives, the film festival dedicated to the new tendencies of international documentary and fiction films, will be back this June. By focusing on the narrative and production opportunities brought forward by the digital revolution, Biografilm Festival wants to act as key to an interpretation of the great questions of “Life, the Universe and Everything”.

The same year as Facebook is under the spotlight, following the Cambridge Analytica scandal, and that Mark Zuckerberg is called in person to testify before the United States senate on the cardinal themes of the contemporary era: handling of personal data, control over contents constantly circulating through the most widespread social platform of the world, Biografilm will host the italian premiere of THE CLEANERS by Hans Block and Moritz Riesewieck, a documentary which investigates the procedures employed by companies such as Facebook and Google to remove contents from their social platforms, procedures we now know require more human action than we could imagine until recently.

The film’s world premiere, held at Sundance Film Festival, has already bewitched the public and international critics who described it as “a neon-lit documentary shot like a noir thriller” (Variety), “the Cleaners is a movie of the moment” (The Verge), “This arthouse-ready doc will deepen viewers' understanding of, and concern about, some of the Internet Age's most urgent concerns” (The Hollywood Reporter).

Other films announced at Biografilm in the last days: the Italian premiere of THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER, the long awaited latest film by Yorgos Lanthimos with Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman, presented last year at Cannes but still unseen in Italy, as well as the Italian premiere of MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. by Stephen Loveridge, dedicated to international icon M.I.A.
