To Letizia Battaglia the Celebration Lives Award at Biografilm Festival 2019.
The film Shooting the Mafia will be screened, in Italian premiére, at Biografilm Festival 2019, in Bologne, from 7th to 17th of June 2019.
Letizia Battaglia, the photographer who was able to show to the world the Mafia without giving in to warnings and threats, but also careful witness of Sicilian and Italianlife and society, is the first Celebration of Lives Award given this year from the Biografilm Festival, which in her honor screens, as Italian premiere, Shooting the Mafia.
Sicilian, 84 years old, Letizia Battaglia is recognized as one of the most important figures in contemporary photography for the civil and ethical value always at the base of her photos and for her ability to affect the collective imagination.
Shooting the Mafia, by the Italian-Irish documentarist Kim Longinotto, is the portrait of the first Italian photoreporter in Palermo during the years of the mafia’s massacres. From work to document the deaths of the Mafia, to political commitmentfor environment and women. And Biografilm Festival has chosen this film to celebrate the life of a woman universally known and appreciated as Letizia Battaglia.
