MANIFESTO by Julian Rosefeldt is the opening film of the section Biografilm Art

Art is once again a main focus at Biografilm Festival - International Celebration of Lives through the Biografilm Art section, which draws together films outside the competition that address themes of art in all its forms: from theatre to poetry, painting to literature, dance to street art.

The opening film of this section of the program, in collaboration with Sky Arte HD, will this year be the highly anticipated MANIFESTO, directed by artist and director Julian Rosefeldt, developed from his celebrated video installation piece of the same title.

A homeless man delivers the Communist Party Manifesto, a widow recited Dadaist slogans at her husband's funeral, a school teacher to explains the rules of Dogma 95 to her eager pupils, and so on. Thirteen different characters: each character has its own scene, and in each of these a new literary or political movement is celebrated through intense monologues and striking images. Rising to meet this challenge in versatility is Oscar® winning actress Cate Blanchett, the ultimate protagonist of this spectacular tribute to the tradition of literary manifestos that conquered this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Rosefeldt draws upon and re-contextualizes the immortal words of the great artists and thinkers. Through these words, we are invited to take a fresh look at the world around us and appreciate what has changed, and what never will.

The Italian premiere of Manifesto will take place on Friday 9th June as a special event exclusively for Biografilm Follower 2017 cardholders, a membership scheme created to provide greater opportunities for participation for all those who believe in the festival and its artistic proposal.

In addition to participating in the event on June 9th, the Biografilm Follower card offers a 50% discount for tickets to festival screenings, priority access to screens, meetings with filmmakers and private screenings, year-round reductions for Sala Biografilm events, entry to press screenings during the festival, 1 complimentary DVD from the Unipol Biografilm Collection, and the possibility to book a place to attend talks with festival guests.
