15 February 2018
On the 14th of February 2018, at the Odeon Cinema in Bologna and on the occasion of the première of the film Hannah, actress Charlotte Rampling was awarded the Biografilm Celebration of Lives Award 2018, the prize which Biografilm dedicates to the great narrators of contemporary history such as Marina Abramovic, Charlie Kaufman, Clint Estwood, Ed Lachman, Michel Gondry, Frederick Wiseman, Ulay, Christo, the Coppola family and Gael García Bernal.
It’s the second time, in the period leading up to the 14th edition of Biografilm Festival (8-18 June 2018), that the Celebration of Lives prize is awarded: it was previously handed out to Oscar winning actor Sir Michael Caine, during the première of My Generation in Venice.
The Celebration of Lives Award will see great changes in 2018: its design will be completely renewed thanks to the collaboration of internationally acclaimed architect and designer Alessandro Mendini; from this year onwards, the winners of the Celebration of Lives award will thus be receiving a real work of art, signed by one of the most influential artists of our time.
The prize’s new design will reflect its ambition to remain the visual point of reference of the Celebration of Lives Award for years to come: the physical creation of the prize will be assigned, through an appropriate open call, to a manufacturing company which will, with instructions of Studio Mendini, commit to the production of the prize for the next 100 year.
