Biografilm Festival is proud to recognize Participant Media, the leading media company dedicated to entertainment that inspires and compels audiences to engage in positive social change, with a special 2019 Tribute. In addition to the tribute, Diane Weyermann, President of Documentary Film and Television for Participant, will receive the 2019 “Make it Real” Award. Created last year, the award honors excellence in producing, with last year’s award going to Simon Chinn (Searching for Sugar Man, Man on Wire).
Participant has had a banner year with such acclaimed, award-winning films as Green Book, RBG and Roma, all of which collectively earned a total 17 Oscar® nominations – the most ever for the company. The tribute will include a retrospective spotlight of some of Participant’s most significant narrative and documentary features at the 15th annual festival, June 7-17 in Bologna.
“We are proud to celebrate the common path and common mission of both Biografilm and Participant by encouraging audiences to be conscious consumers through the content they consume,” said Andrea Romeo, Director of Biografilm Festival. “Since then, we have screened many of their important titles – documentary and narrative – which have been very significant for the identity of our Festival and we are excited to continue that legacy.”
Weyermann commented: “Everyone at Biografilm has been an amazing partner over the years having shown such incredible support of Participant and our mission and content. So to be honored by them in this way is incredibly gratifying. On a personal note, I am very touch and thrilled to be receiving this year’s ‘Make it Real’ Award from a festival for which I hold the utmost fondness and respect.”
