Lea Tsemel may well describe herself as a failing lawyer, as she tends to lose every case she takes on. And yet, she is one of the bravest and most successful lawyers in the world, known as "the devil's advocate".
Her fight is portrayed in the documentary ADVOCATE by Rachel Leah Jones and Philippe Bellaiche, which is currently screening at Sundance as part of the World Cinema Documentary Competition and will have its Italian premiere at Biografilm Festival 2019, scheduled in Bologna from 7th to 17th, June.
Lea Tsemel defends Palestinians: from feminists to fundamentalists, from non-violent demonstrators to armed militants. As a Jewish-Israeli lawyer who has been represented political prisoners for five decades, Tsemel, in his tireless pursuit of justice, pushes herself to the limit in the name of human rights. For most Israelis, she defends the indefensible. For Palestinians, she is more than a lawyer, she is an ally.
