As part of Bio to B – Industry Days | Doc, Biografilm’s platform for professional networking and innovation in the European documentary scene, this year will be held the Green Frames: Festival Sustainability Think Tank, a two-day training dedicated to rethinking sustainability in the cultural and film sector. Designed for the member festivals of the Doc Around Europe network, the initiative will take place on June 7–8 at Cinema Modernissimo in the heart of Bologna. Through inspiring case studies, practical strategies, speeches and hands-on collaboration with international experts in sustainability and ecosemiotics, the programme explores how festivals can become collective spaces of ecological awareness, balancing environmental, social, and economic impact, while keeping in mind the presence and well-being of both human and non-human life.
The core goal? To co-create a shared Decalogue of Good Practices: a shared operational manifesto to guide festivals toward a more sustainable future, outlining concrete commitments and practical guidelines.
Marta García Larriu is the founder of Another Way, a cultural platform and film festival dedicated to sustainability and narrative change. An international producer and expert in green audiovisual practices, she will act as the general moderator and coordinator of the Green Frames training, bringing her experience in sustainable storytelling and creative leadership to guide the dialogue.
Nicola Zengiaro is a biosemiotician and researcher in ecosemiotics and environmental humanities, currently a research fellow at the University of Turin. His work explores the intersections between signs, environments, and meaning, with a focus on environmental storytelling, animal communication, and the semiotic construction of landscapes. He is going to contribute to the training with an intervention on "Sensing Together: Multispecies Festival Design".
Alessio Baglioni is a certified Sustainability Manager with over five years of experience in corporate social responsibility, sustainability reporting, and carbon footprint analysis. He is currently Communication Manager at Phoresta. As part of the training, he will present the case study of Biografilm, sharing insights and strategies on how festivals can effectively measure and compensate for their CO₂ emissions.
