Golden Dawn Girls

Contemporary Lives

(Danimarca, Norvegia, Finlandia / 2017 / 94’)

To reconstruct the rise of Golden Dawn, the right-wing greek party, Golden Dawn Girls choose to adopt a curious point of view: the one of a mother, a wife and a daughter. After the arrest of Nikolaos Michaloliakos and other members of the party, Dafni, Jenny e Ourania continue their loved ones’ propaganda. The director focuses on these women, sometimes leaving the camera on, seizing the most authentic shades. From the “off air” to the official declarations, the film reflects on the consequences of the country’s crisis, trying to understand “what happened in Greece”: heaven full of sunny beaches, blacked out by the rising of nationalist ideologies, so close to a uncontrollable neo-nazi drift.
