Manifesto

Biografilm Art

by Julian Rosefeldt

(Germania, Australia / 2017 / 95’)

A homeless man delivers the Communist Party Manifesto, a widow recited Dadaist slogans at her husband's funeral, a school teacher to explains the rules of Dogma 95 to her eager pupils, and so on. Thirteen different characters: each character has its own scene, and in each of these a new literary or political movement is celebrated through intense monologues and striking images. Rising to meet this challenge in versatility is Oscar® winning actress Cate Blanchett, the ultimate protagonist of this spectacular tribute to the tradition of literary manifestos that conquered this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Rosefeldt draws upon and re-contextualizes the immortal words of the great artists and thinkers. Through these words, we are invited to take a fresh look at the world around us and appreciate what has changed, and what never will.
