Gørild Mauseth, the magnificent Norwegian actress, has never performed in Russian, but decides nonetheless to accept the challenge of playing Anna Karenina in Vladivostok. And so she sets off on a journey through Russia, tracing Anna’s footsteps, her land, her story... and her language, enriched by many encounters and splendid landscapes along the way. As she searches for Tolstoy’s Anna, however, she realizes she is looking for her personal Anna, and ultimately herself. Slowly, immersed in the land’s vastness and the magic of an unknown language, Gørild's hold on the distinction between reality and memory is shaken, as if Anna’s tormented soul were interfering with her stability as an independent woman, through the cathartic power of the theatre and the immortal words of Tolstoy (played by Liam Neeson).
