I am Not Alone Anyway

Biografilm Italy

by Veronica Santi

(Italy / 2017 / 75’)

Behind the eclectic figure of Francesca Alinovi there is the story of the rise of a young woman from the provinces, a charming and timid observer of the world. She found fertile ground in 70s Bologna to develop her creativity, in the cultural fervour of Eco and Barilli's newborn DAMS arts study pathway. As a highly regarded curator of numerous exhibitions, she presented her idea of art across the whole of Italy, right to New York’s Holly Solomon gallery: a blend of photographs, comic illustration and graffiti. Determined to showcase the engagement with reality of peripheral artists excluded from the cultural elite, Francesca becomes herself a victim of a painter's obsessions, in the disturbing incident that took over the media and became infamous.
