Isidor Feinstein Stone, investigative journalist and founder of the independent newsletter ‘I.F.Stone Weekly’ (from 1953 to 1971), was a guiding light for freedom of press in the USA, whose figure inspired generations of reporters. His most famous line, "all governments lie," is still as relevant as ever. Today his successors, including Matt Taibbi, Amy Goodman, John Carlos Frey, Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras of Citizenfour, pay tribute to him by revealing the investigative work that can uncover the darkest secrets of an administration, especially those linked to foreign policy, the dirty business of "just wars" and the state surveillance of citizens. In an era that has seen the rise of Trump and the spread of post-truth, this is a strong, political and necessary film.
